I have been an admirer and patron of fine art for as long as I can remember. I dabbled with oil painting in my younger days but never seemed to have the time necessary to master the medium. I would attend the local art shows looking for pieces that caught my eye. One particular piece that I saw while walking the halls at Roswell Park changed my view of watercolor as a medium. I fell in love with the way a few brush strokes could be made to represent a subject. It wasn't long before I decided to try my hand at watercolor painting. I was several years into my retirement at this point so I had plenty of time to practice my art. I've taken lessons from local artists, Dan Meyer and Jody Ziehm and attended workshops but try as I might, I could never seem to duplicate the techniques I so admired in other Watercolor artists. In each of my paintings I couldn't help myself from adding additional detail to make the paintings more realistic to me. I've since decided that this had become my preferred method of painting. Maybe someday I'll be able to loosen up and paint more freely but for now I just want to enjoy the journey I'm on and create my art.
